In Belarus, Alexander Loukachenko has served as President since the establishment of the office 26 years ago. Loukachenko has since acted as an autocrat, continuously restricting liberties on the territory but managing to stay in office nonetheless. Early August, thousands of Belarusians have taken the streets to protest against his reelection. Manifestations on the night of the 10th of August were heavily repressed. Freedom of press and assembly are being threatened. WSF believes that it is important to discuss these pressing issues and human rights violations unfolding in Belarus.
