Black and Indigenous Lives Matter!
Transforming rage about racism, national oppression and state brutality into permanent change

The cry “Black Lives Matter” is reverberating across the globe. Huge, ongoing street protest is showing that the systemic racism which led to the brutal police M**der of George Floyd knows no borders. Australian protests have put attention on the epidemic of Indigenous deaths at the hands of police and Pr*son authorities. The similarities — right down to the plea, “I can’t breath!” — are striking.

In the U.S., African Americans battle segregation. In Australia, First Nations are battling the genocidal practice of assimilation. This study series will explore the similarities and differences and discuss why the capitalist state is irredeemably racist and brutal. Importantly, we’ll discuss what can be done about this, exploring key demands of the struggle and what it will take to achieve lasting solutions.

Starts Wednesday, 12 August and then alternate Wednesdays until 7 October.
